Progressive Democrat Newsletter Issue 268

This week showed us that the economic recovery continues to be slow...but that doesn't mean it hasn't started. It turns out that Obama's decision to use TARP funds to bailout General Motors and Chrysler worked...thanks to this, the auto industry has added 55,000 jobs, its best growth since 1999.

This is addressed in President Obama's weekly address:



This success had gotten only limited media attention...but at least it has gotten some.

This highlights what many liberals and progressives have been saying all along...our government needs to do MORE of this kind of thing. In fact I'd say one of the top things we need to do is far, far more Green Jobs programs to create jobs as well as reducing environmental degradation and creating new sources of energy.

And speaking of changing our energy use, global warming has now been found to have an even more frightening consequence, and it is already well under way: Studies show dramatic decrease in plankton as planet warms

Keep in mind that almost the entire food chain of the oceans depend on plankton. Our fisheries are already in crisis due to overfishing. A 40% decrease in plankton due to global warming is going to severely impact the remaining fisheries. And again, this 40% decrease is NOT a prediction. It has already happened...what will it take for our society to start ACTING on global warming.

Speaking of our oil addiction...BP has responded to public outrage at their destruction of the Gulf Coast by switching CEOs. And what is the first things the new CEO does? He says "Mission Accomplished" and starts scaling back clean up efforts. Of course BP is also trying to claim the oil spill will have only minor impact on the Gulf coast.
