Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

    Brooklyn Focus: August 3rd: MEET AND SUPPORT STATE SENATOR VELMANETTE MONTGOMERY

    This was sent by a friend. I can seldom make such events these days, but I have already given to Velmanette's Campaign...and probably will again. I also get to hear Velmanette speak at Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats meetings. But I urge anyone who can to go to this event and support one of the best Democrats in New York:

    MEET AND SUPPORT STATE SENATOR VELMANETTE MONTGOMERY

    At the home of Joan Reutershan and Meg Harper

    70 South Portland Avenue (near Lafayette) 6:00 – 8:00PM

    Join Council Member Letitia James along with hosts Joan Reutershan, Meg Harper, Naomi Dickerson, Charles Jarden, Lucy Koteen, Patricia Johnson, Paul Palazzo, and Steve Soblick.

    Senator Montgomery, currently the Chairperson of the Children and Families Committee, has stood up for all the right issues:

    * Community Supported Development
    * Reforming the Juvenile Justice system
    * Affordable Housing for all
    * Marriage Equality
    * Democratic Education
    * Opposition to Atlantic Yards

    We are fortunate in our district to have an honest, ethical, hard working State Senator who has served her constituents well. Let’s show her the support she deserves!!! Please be as generous as you can.

    Come share a drink and snacks with your neighbors and speak with Senator Montgomery about what is important to you and to her.

    RSVP Joan Reutershan 718-624-1516 or joan.reutershan@gmail.com

    Velmanette is my state senator and she is one of the very few in Albany who is worth anything. She has led the fight against Atlantic Yards overdevelopment, led the fight to clean up the Gowanus Canal, led the fight for better and more effective sex education in our schools, and I have to say, led pretty much every fight I support in Albany Velmanette has been at the front of. She takes a leadership role even with issues that don't get much attention, like sex education in our schools. She knows what the community needs and she fights for it. Velmanette is routinely challenged by developer-supported candidates, and has so far had little trouble fending off challenges. She is very popular, very active and very progressive.

    To help you can bring a check to the event. If you can't make the event, please donate through Act Blue or mail a check to: Arzora O’Neal, 195 Willoughby Avenue, Suite 305, Brooklyn NY 11205. Make check payable to: 18th Friends of Senator Montgomery
