Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

    Progressive Democrat Newsletter 278

A reader sent this to me: President Eisenhower, a very well respected Republican, had this to say about social programs like Social Security in the United States:

"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are...a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."
    - President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 11/8/54

Seems like the modern Republican Party and their Texas oil millionaires have forgotten the words of one of their best. Pity that the Eisenhower Republicans have lost out to the George Bush/Newt Gingrich extremists.

Obama has been busy since the elections, basically bringing jobs back to America...and the Republicans are criticizing him for it. On the very first day of Obama's trip to India he delivered this for America:

    * SpiceJet an Indian airline will purchase 33 737s from Boeing

    * The Indian military is confirming a deal to purchase Aircraft engines from General
    Electric

    * The Indian Air Force is looking to buy 10 C17s from Boeing.

53,670 people will be in work in the US as a result of this.

Republicans have been criticizing Obama for going to India. I guess they don't want Americans to have jobs! Here is Rachel Maddow slamming the Republicans for their lies:

I think this all explains why Democrats are better at creating jobs than Republicans. Remember, the bottom line is Job Growth is ALWAYS better under Democrats than Republicans:

I continue to expand my local sections based on where my readers are. Surges in places like Minneapolis and Philadelphia, for example, have inspired me to start pages for those locations, though it remains to be seen if traffic is high enough to justify weekly updates for those locations. Texas and Washington State remain major areas of readership though interestingly both seem partly driven by a robot program linked to Amazon.com. Not sure what's up with that, but I think it means my Washington State and Texas readership isn't quite as high as they seem, but the robot isn't the only source of hits from those states. New York and California continue to be high up in readership levels as well.

As the dust clears from the election I am finding myself as eager as ever to fight for what I know is right. The Republican/Tea Party surge was too much driven by racism against a black President and money from interests in China and Saudi Arabia as well as donations from the wealthiest 10% of America's rich for me to take it too seriously. I refuse to kowtow to racists or Saudis or Chinese communists or the wealthiest 10% of America, all of whom wound up being the main players in Republican victories. So I remain committed to working and middle class Americans who believe in a fairer, greener and more successful America. I believe in the end we will win. It will just take time...and effort.

I have been adding to my local focus sections as much as I can. Progressive Talk Radio stations, NAACP chapters, Jewish organizations, LGBT organizations, Native American organizations, etc. I will continue to update the local focus pages and adding to them. I think they are valuable. Some get a huge number of hits. Some get only a handful. But each hit means someone is interested in the information I am providing and so I feel each hit helps someone find a connection with a progressive group or event or activity or candidate that they can work with. THAT has always been my number one goal for this newsletter: helping people make connections with the groups or individuals they can work with.
