    The Home Stretch in Wisconsin

This is it, folks. We are entering the home stretch for the August special elections in Wisconsin. And we have some real chances to win and some real nail biters. Daily Kos has started some polling and the first three polls they have show us likely to pick up two seats with a more long shot third...and there are more polls to come.

I want to highlight the top races as I see them now. PLEASE contribute to at least one of these key campaigns and/or do some phone banking from home. If we all do one or both of these actions, we WILL see a big win in August and beyond.

STATE SENATE DISTRICT 32: Assemblywoman Jennifer Shilling

    STANDING UP FOR US!

Under normal conditions this is a toss up district (R+0 in the analysis of an earlier Daily Kos diary). This year we have a solid lead by more than 10 points.

    From the Daily Kos poll:

    Jennifer Shilling (D): 56
    Dan Kapanke (R-inc): 42
    Undecided: 3
    (MoE: ±2.3%)

STATE SENATE DISTRICT 18: Jessica King

    STANDING UP FOR OUR VALUES!

Jessica King is one of our best candidates. And she nearly won this election last time around! And this time it looks like she may win it by a bigger margin than she lost it last time. This is a district that I REALLY want to see us kick the Billionaire Koch Brothers' asses.

    From the Daily Kos poll:

    Jessica King (D): 50
    Randy Hopper (R-inc): 47
    Undecided: 3
    (MoE: ±2.9%)

Under normal conditions this is a pretty solid Republican district (R+13 in the analysis of an earlier Daily Kos diary). But this summer we are actually ahead!

Jessica King is intelligent and very capable and will make an excellent State Senator. This is one of our best shot this year. She only lost by 200 votes last time. Donate to make sure we WIN this time. Or go to her website to volunteer. Or phonebank from home.

STATE SENATE DISTRICT 8: Assemblywoman Sandy Pasch

I'm running to be your next State Senator to protect what truly matters in our community- quality public schools, good, affordable health care and the right to have a say in the work place. I'm running to overcome the challenges we face head on - and I'll stand and fight to defend the values we know are so important. I hope you’ll join me as I run for the 8th Senate District.

This district is less Republican than SD18 above (R+12 in the analysis of an earlier Daily Kos diary), so if we are slightly ahead in SD18 we should be more ahead here, but the polling isn't in yet.

    The Responsible Thing To Do:

Sandy Pasch already has an outstanding public service career in the Assembly including these honors and awards:

Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters – 2010 Conservation Champion

Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians – 2010 Friend of Family Physicians

Equality Wisconsin – 2009 Equal Rights Champion

Wisconsin Dietetic Association – 2010 Leadership in Nutrition Awareness Award

Wisconsin Nurses Association’s 2010 Service to the WNA Award

Wisconsin Public Health Association – 2010 Legislator of the Year
2010 NASW Wisconsin Public Service Award

She will make an excellent State Senator.

Donate to make sure we WIN this one. Or go to her website to volunteer. Or phonebank from home.

STATE SENATE DISTRICT 2: Former Brown County Executive Nancy Nusbaum

"I'm running to be the next State Senator for the 2nd Senate District because I believe we can do better in Wisconsin. We need to bring change to Madison now before they do anymore damage to the values we know are so important. And we need a state senator who will always put the people first. Please join me as I campaign throughout the 2nd district and check back often for ways that you can get involved."

This district is similar to SD18 above (R+13 in the analysis of an earlier Daily Kos diary), so if we are slightly ahead in SD18 we should be slightly ahead here, but the polling isn't in yet.

Donate to make sure we WIN this one. Or go to her website to volunteer. Or phonebank from home.

STATE SENATE DISTRICT 10: Shelly Moore

Shelly Moore is not a career politician but an educator and I love to see more teachers, nurses, firefighters, veterans, scientists and cops elected to office. Too many politicians are lawyers and we desperately need a wider range of viewpoints and backgrounds. Shelly Moore will be great at adding an educator's perspective.

    From the Daily Kos poll:

    Shelly Moore (D): 45
    Sheila Harsdorf (R-inc): 50
    Undecided: 5
    (MoE: ±2.8%)

Under normal conditions this is a solid Republican district (R+14 in the analysis of an earlier Daily Kos diary). But this summer we are catching up fast. I have no illusions here: this is a bit of a long shot. BUT, I have seen longer shots make it to victory when unions and progressives get together and work their butts off. THIS district is one we CAN win if we work for it. If we win this district, I assure you the tide will turn against the far right wing extremists and we WILL save our unions and the middle class.

STATE SENATE DISTRICT 14: Assemblyman Fred Clark

    A TIME TO STAND UP!

I am hearing LOTS of positive comments from Fred Clark's constituents and neighbors and he seems both an excellent representative AND an excellent person.

A simple analysis would suggest that this district is more winnable for us than SD 2 and 10 (above). But our candidate, who is an excellent one overall, has made a few mistakes that I think by no means defeat him, but may well reduce his chances behind Shelly Moore in SD10. That said, polling is not out yet and Fred Clark has an excellent reputation and popularity. Plus he is already an Assemblyman in the area, so is known to the voters. The district has been R+12 in the analysis of an earlier Daily Kos diary but this year, with Republicans becoming so hated, (mistakes aside!) I think Fred Clark (mistakes aside!) is the one who can win it...or at least give them a run for their money (or really the Billionaire Koch Brothers' money) that they will never forget.

Fred Clark knows that Wisconsin deserves better than Luther Olsen & Scott Walker:

Now I want to make sure we defend three seats from Republican attacks (both now and in the future).

    Jim Holperin

Jim Holperin is a strong Democrat representing the 12th State Senate district. He is being targeted by a radical Republican recall effort. They claim they have the signatures for the recall. This is a R+11 district, which worries me a bit, but Holperin won before and should be able to win again. But now and in the future Holperin is a major target of the Billionaire Koch Brothers of NYC. So I am focusing on defense here and have sent his campaign some money. Please join me in doing the same. Or contact his campaign and volunteer if you are in the district: http://holperinforsenate.com/

    Bob Wirch

This is another probably easy defense. It is a D+2 district (should be safe but the kind of district Democrats can mess up). Radical Republicans are targeting Bob Wirch and we do need to pay attention here. But we are probably safe. If you are in the district, please contact his campaign and help out: https://bobwirch.ngphost.com/

    Dave Hansen:

And one more probably easy defense. Radical Republicans are targeting Dave Hansen and we do need to pay attention here. The district is R+4 but we are probably safe. Hansen won before and should be able to win again. Here is Dave Hansen talking about being one of the Wisconsin 14:

If you live in the district please contact his campaign and help out: http://hansenforsenate.com

Now is the time to fight. DONATE or PHONE BANK FROM HOME to protect America's working and middle class from the Billionaire Koch Brothers.
