Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

    Progressive Democrat Newsletter 254

Interestingly, my readership overall has been declining sharply recently, but in Tennessee I am getting a sudden surge (relatively speaking) of readership. So I am adding a Tennessee page. But some of the pages I have been updating weekly I may scale back a bit. We'll see. My goal is always to provide good information for whoever is reading the newsletter, and that has somewhat shifted over time. California and New York have always been two of the top three places I have readers. Interestingly, Virginia, New Jersey, Texas and Georgia have competed for top three as well. Right now it's Texas in the third spot. All other states have varied from low to moderate readership from week to week. Right now is one of the lowest points so far for readership, which leads me to think either what I am doing is becoming obsolete, or people are for the moment fed up with politics. Either way, I know it is worth continuing providing this service because I know from experience when an election, key issue, or scandal comes along, this is one resource people use.

Speaking of scandals, as the C-street scandal takes off into an official investigation, Bark Stupak, who was willing to sacrifice healthcare reform for attacking a woman's right to choose, has decided to retire. I suspect political insiders will start trying to make one of their own his anointed replacement, but we already have an excellent candidate running who has been endorsed by NARAL, Planned Parenthood, NOW and Blue America. Please help me support Connie Saltonstall for Congress in MI-1. I believe she will be a voice in Congress we can be proud of and we have already raised more than $100,000 through grassroots efforts for her.

And I would be remiss if I left out the woman challenging Joe Pitts, Stupak's partner in trying to attach anti-choice amendments to healthcare reform, for the PA-16 seat. Lois Herr has been endorsed by Feminist Majority, NOW, the National Women's Political Caucus and Women's Campaign Forum as well as Norman Bristol Colón (Executive Director Governor's Advisory Council on Latino Affairs), LaDonna Harris (President of Americans for Indian Opportunity), Rob McCord (Pennsylvania Treasurer), and many others.

If you live in the PA-16 district, please volunteer some of your time for Lois Herr.

And wherever you live, please donate to Lois Herr's campaign.

I leave you with video of Obama's weekly address:
