The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

North Carolina Focus: Billy Kennedy for Congress (NC-5)

Virginia Foxx is one oft he worst Republicans in Congress. She is one of the Katrina 11, the 11 Republicans who voted "No" on the bill that Congress approved and Bush signed to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Katrina 11, including Virgiia Foxx, are cold-hearted bastards who would willingly see Americans die for the sake of more tax cuts for the wealthy. She is also is one of only 33 Republicans who opposed extension of the Voting Rights Act in July 2006. Her biggest contribution to American law making was to introduce an act to praise the Christmas Tree industry. So she loves Christmas trees but hates black people.

Billy Kennedy is running against Virginia Foxx and he strikes me as an excellent candidate. From Billy Kennedy's website:

You might know Billy as the host of WATA-AM’s call-in show, “Watauga Talks.” He’s also the son of a minister, and later mayor of Black Mountain, NC; a farmer; a father; a carpenter; and is active in community service.

    The Missionary and Mayor’s Son

Billy Kennedy was born to Will and Frances Kennedy in 1957 in Richmond, Virginia. He started school in Richmond, and when he was 12 years old, his father was called to Switzerland to serve the church...

Following college in Tennessee, in 1980 he moved to western Watauga County. Billy became skilled at carpentry; worked as a maintenance man and furniture-maker; owned his own home remodeling business. He remodeled and updated an existing 110-year-old farmhouse on his property, and later built a new home for his family. He began raising livestock in 2000.

“I chose to earn a living with my hands, and I can see how average people have been treated recently. Certainly not like bankers or members of Congress,” says Billy

Here is the latest video from Kennedy's campaign:
