Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

NY State to Pennsylvania: Voter Registration and Get Out the Vote

This comes from a fellow IND member. I am more optimistic about our current chances of winning big, but I completely concur on the need to register voters and get out the vote. So please help out by participating and/or spreading the word!

    Dear Friends,

I had to think long and hard about whether to tell you the truth today. It's not as though I enjoy telling lies, but, like most people, I'm not above framing the world in a gentler light in order to protect the sensibilities of people I care about. History tells us, however, that those objects of our protective instincts are often done more harm than good. The truth can hurt, but the truth can also set you free. Sometimes it's hard to tell the truth, but here goes:

If this election were held today, Barack Obama would lose. We would lose. America and the world, I believe, would lose.

    Latest Gallup Tracking: 47-46, McCain
    Latest Rasmussen Tracking: 48-47, McCain
Latest Newsweek: 46-46, cold, dead even

And the Fox News/Rasmussen state poll in Pennsylvania wrapped up on Monday shows Obama's lead gone. They have it dead even at 47 up in Pennsylvania.

Yes, if the election were held today, it would be agonizingly close, but in the end I think Obama would lose. The good news is that the election is not held today. We have a little time, precious, precious time. And we have it within our power to do something, to do a great deal, really. It is a journey that begins with a single step: Get on the Bus.

If you have traveled down the road with us before, you need to get on the bus once again. If you have yet to take that first step, you need to know that quiet conversations with like-minded spirits in the cozy cafes of New York are not going to win this election. "The White House," wrote Hunter Thompson, "has never been won by timid warriors."

We depart from Port Authority Bus Terminal (South Terminal, 8th Ave. btwn 40th & 41st St.), Saturday morning, September 27th, aboard Trans-Bridge Bus Lines. Please arrive at the gate no later than 8:30 am to guarantee yourself a seat. The bus to Easton should depart from Gate 4 or 6. Please arrive early to purchase your ticket on the South Terminal main floor and make your way downstairs to the gate. Bus tickets are $37.95 round trip. The ride is about 1 hour 40 minutes. Buses return at 4:05 and 6:10 pm.

For those who would like to make a weekend of it, supporter housing is now available. Just let me know in your reply, and we'll hook you up with a local Obama supporter willing to offer up their home to you and our cause.

Thank you to everyone for your time and commitment. Please RSVP so I can provide a headcount to Obama's team in the Lehigh Valley.

    Very best wishes,
