Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

Progressive Democrat Issue 94: NJ CONGRESSIONAL VOTING RECORD

So just above is an analysis of the voting record of all the NY State Congress critters, showing that Democrats are superior on a variety of issues. Here I want to do the same for New Jersey.

Below I have ratings on Defense (A through F, from IAVA), Seniors issues (lifetime rating on a scale of 0-100 from Alliance for Retired Americans), environment (most recent ratings on a scale of 0-100, League of Conservation Voters, an organization), Labor issues (lifetime score from 0-100, AFL-CIO) and reproductive rights (lifetime score from 0-100, Planned Parenthood). This is a mix of so-called "right" and "left" issues, and in almost every case Republicans rank below Democrats. Feel free to distribute this info and use it on election day.

    Republicans:
    Frank A. LoBiondo:Defense: B-; Seniors: 13; Environment: 83; Labor: 45; Choice: 0
    Jim Saxton: Defense: C; Seniors: 8; Environment: 83; Labor: 32; Choice: 0
    Christopher H. Smith: Defense: B; Seniors: 21; Environment: 92; Labor: 64; Choice: 0
    Scott Garrett: Defense: C-; Seniors: 7; Environment: 25; Labor: 13; Choice: 0
    Michael A. Ferguson: Defense: B-; Seniors: 8; Environment: 83; Labor: 23; Choice: 0
    Rodney Frelinghuysen: Defense: C+; Seniors: 4; Environment: 67; Labor: 12; Choice: 73

    Democrats:
    Frank R. Lautenberg: Defense: B+; Seniors: 96; Environment: 86; Labor: 90; Choice: 100
Robert Menendez: Defense: B; Seniors: 95; Environment: 100; Labor: 97 (from House); Choice: 100

    Robert E. Andrews: Defense: A-; Seniors: 93; Environment: 100; Labor: 89; Choice: 100
Frank Pallone, Jr.: Defense: B; Seniors: 100; Environment: 100; Labor: 92; Choice: 100
Bill Pascrell, Jr.: Defense: A- Seniors: 98; Environment: 100; Labor: 99; Choice: 80
    Steven R. Rothman: Defense: B+; Seniors: 98; Environment: 100; Labor: 95; Choice: 100
    Donald M. Payne: Defense: C; Seniors: 98; Environment: 92; Labor: 99; Choice: 100
    Rush Holt: Defense: B; Seniors: 92; Environment: 100; Labor: 91; Choice: 100

First thing I noticed compiling this is that Republicans in NJ are marginally better on the issues than Republicans in NY State. But Democrats are still, overall, better in BOTH states. Hope this is useful to you!
