Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

Progressive Democrat Issue 94: IN CONGRESSIONAL VOTING RECORD

So just above are analyses of the voting record of all the NY State and NJ Congress critters, showing that Democrats are superior on a variety of issues. Here I want to do the same for Indiana.

Below I have ratings on Defense (A through F, from IAVA), Seniors issues (lifetime rating on a scale of 0-100 from Alliance for Retired Americans), environment (most recent ratings on a scale of 0-100, League of Conservation Voters, an organization), Labor issues (lifetime score from 0-100, AFL-CIO) and reproductive rights (lifetime score from 0-100, Planned Parenthood). This is a mix of so-called "right" and "left" issues, and in almost every case Republicans rank below Democrats. Feel free to distribute this info and use it on election day.

    Republicans:
    Richard G. Lugar:Defense: D+; Seniors: 9; Environment: 10; Labor: 13; Choice: 0

    Chris Chocola: Defense: C-; Seniors: 4; Environment: 8; Labor: 9; Choice: 0
    Mark Souder: Defense: C; Seniors: 2; Environment: 42; Labor: 14; Choice: 0
    Steve Buyer: Defense: C; Seniors: 5; Environment: 0; Labor: 13; Choice: 0
    Dan Burton: Defense: C; Seniors: 9; Environment: 0; Labor: 13; Choice: 0
    Mike Pence: Defense: C; Seniors: 4; Environment: 0; Labor: 6; Choice: 0
    John N. Hostettler: Defense: C+; Seniors: 13; Environment: 0; Labor: 24; Choice: 0
    Mike Sodrel: Defense: D; Seniors: 0; Environment: 0; Labor: 13; Choice: 0

I am struck by how dismal Indiana Republicans are. Even on defense and seniors they are just awful.

    Democrats:
    Evan Bayh: Defense: B+; Seniors: 85; Environment: 92; Labor: 91; Choice: 92

    Peter J. Visclosky: Defense: B+; Seniors: 93; Environment: 92; Labor: 93; Choice: 73
    Julia M. Carson: Defense: A-; Seniors: 100; Environment: 100; Labor: 98; Choice: 100

Such a stark difference. I like the Dems in Indiana: they seem to rock! This makes me feel that, even more than in NJ and NY, we need to defeat Republicans in Indiana. They are bad on critical issues, helping no one but Halliburton and Exxon while sacrificing labor, farmers and our soldiers for their greed. Remember that IN-2, IN-8 and IN-9 are VERY competitive. If we win those we knock out three of the worst Republicans in the House. For the good of American workers, American farmers, American seniors and American soldiers, help win Indiana in 2006.
