Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

    Progressive Democrat Newsletter 304

This week seems to have been the week of Occupy Wall Street. I felt dismissive of the effort at first, and I still kind of feel that we could have used some of that activism to actually win an election here in Brooklyn in Sept. But as the movement grows I feel this could be something significant. I am hoping people use this opportunity to organize and forge longer term activism that can translate into genuine successes. But even just a large scale expression of discontent is something we need right about now. Here is some footage of what has been going on:

Right Here All Over (Occupy Wall St.) from Alex Mallis on Vimeo.

    MUSICAL SELECTIONS:

Had this one not so long ago, but it really rocks...and it has folks from Russia, Ukraine, Ecuador, China/Scotland, etc...a real immigrant song to throw in the face of the Republican Racists:

    And one step further...Immigrant Punk:

My personal IMMIGRANT experience is a Jewish one...so I add this reminder of where I came from:

Music that resonates with me even though I am third generation. Republicans ignore the fact that we are ALL only a handful of generations from immigrants. Immigrants BUILT this country and we should be PROUD of our immigrant roots.
