Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

McHenry Democrats' Thomas Jefferson Dinner May 14, 2011

We are delighted to announce that President Franlkin D. Roosevelt (as portrayed by actor R.J. Lindsey) will make a special guest appearance at this year's Thomas Jefferson Dinner. Roosevelt plans to comment on current events in the context of the challenges he faced as President during the Great Depression.

The Thomas Jefferson Dinner is the annual fund-raising event for the Democratic Party of McHenry County, and attracts hundreds of Democrats, progressives and labor leaders from throughout McHenry County and the greater Chicago area. This year's event promises to be especially important as we gear up for the crucial 2012 election season and the always contentious redrawing of Congressional, state and local political district boundaries.

We are proud to announce that we will be honoring Mary Margaret Maule with the Robert McGarry Award for Community Service, and Mac Patel with the Benjamin Franklin Business Partner Award.

Dinner includes salad, New York strip steak, sauteed vegetables, garlic mashed potatoes, and dessert. Vegetarian entree is available on request.

The Democratic Party of McHenry County
Democracy is not a spectator sport: You can make a difference!
    http://www.mchenrydems.org/

There's more to politics than just voting for president every four years. Our democratic system of government depends on citizen participation at every level, but especially at the local level. While the glamor of national politics often overshadows the seemingly mundane world of local government, it's right here in your own neighborhood that you can make the biggest difference.

The Democratic Party of McHenry County is a small group of dedicated volunteers focused on our primary mission of electing Democratic candidates to local offices, from the municipal level up to the state legislature. We support this mission by recruiting and training candidates, by raising money to promote our candidates and our message, and by supporting a progressive social, environmental, and economic agenda here in McHenry County. Recent elections have proven that our message is resonating strongly even here in this traditionally Republican county. But there is much more to do, and it will take the efforts of all of us, working together, to make our community reach its potential.

We invite you to become involved with the local Democratic Party by registering for membership here, and by attending our monthly meetings. Your voice will be heard and your opinions valued.
