Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. California Focus: Beth Krom Slams Republican Posturing

From an email from Beth Krom for Congress:

It never fails. Once again John Campbell has proven he cares more about partisanship than leadership!

Last Friday, Congress took up HR 847 (James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010) to ensure that first responders and individuals impacted by the terrorist attacks in New York on September 11, 2001 would continue to have access to medical care.

John Campbell voted against the bill.

The firefighters and emergency personnel who responded to the attacks on the World Trade Center have been dealing with serious respiratory illnesses and related conditions due to toxins they inhaled that fateful day. These first responders (firefighters, paramedics and police officers) ignored the risks to their own safety and showed great bravery to help those trapped in the Twin Towers.

John Campbell was there for the bankers on Wall Street. He protected auto dealers from financial oversight. He defends offshore tax shelters. But to the men and women who now suffer chronic illnesses because they answered the call to serve, he says "tough luck!"

The Bill wouldn't even have added to the deficit. It would have been paid for by closing tax loopholes on subsidiaries of foreign companies. Apparently, he's more interested in protecting the interests of foreign corporations who have found ways to skirt U.S. tax laws than he is in showing respect for the American heroes who protected our country on 9/11.

This isn't the first time John Campbell chose to deny financial support to our nation's heroes. He's voted NO time and again on public safety support and veterans benefits. His priorities are out of touch. It's time for a change.

As your Congresswoman, I won't play politics when it comes to the health and welfare of our country's first responders or our men and women in uniform. Please help me win this race by contributing $25, $50, $100 - whatever you can afford. With only 3 months until Election Day, we have our work cut out for us. With your help, we'll demonstrate that people really are the most powerful force in our democracy!
    Sincerely,

    Beth Krom
    Candidate for Congress (CA 48)
