    May 6-9 Thursday-Sunday, Irvine:: Anatolian Cultures & Food Festival Hosted by the Pacifica Institute (pacificainstitute.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering multi-cultural dialogue, the festival celebrates the diverse history, food and music of this vibrant region in Turkey. The event is now in its second year and will run May 6 to May 9, 2010 at its new venue at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine.

    The Santiago Creek watershed begins in the Santa Ana Mountains, runs through Santa Ana, connects with the Santa Ana River, and connects to the Pacific Ocean. Steelhead Trout used to trek from the ocean to the mountains, providing food for Grizzly Bears up until recent times. Participate in these free community events in order to learn more about our local ecology.

Marcella Gilchrist, site manager for the Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary in Modjeska Canyon will tell us about this gem of a preserve. 'Tucker', through its research projects, helps preserve wildlife and natural habitats in the canyons of Orange County.     May 13 Thursday 6:30pm, Costa Mesa: Americans United for Separation of Church and State: Sean Faircloth, Executive Director of the Secular Coalition for America. Sean will discuss "One Nation Under the Constitution: The Future of Secularism in America". Sean Faircloth served five terms in the Maine Legislature where he served on the Judiciary and Appropriations Committees. In his last term Faircloth was elected Majority Whip. In 2009 he became executive director of the Secular Coalition for America, advocating for separation of church and state, and for greater acceptance of nontheistic viewpoints in American life.     Orange County Biodiesel Cooperative: Working together to increase availability of biodiesel in the Orange County region. Biodiesel is better for the environment because it is made from renewable resources and has lower emissions compared to petroleum diesel. It is less toxic than table salt and biodegrades as fast as sugar.
