Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

Jocelyn Benson for Michigan Secretary of State

I am a strong supporter of Jocelyn Benson for Michigan Secretary of State. She is one of six 2010 candidates supported by the Secretary of State Project. Here is what the SOS Project has to say about her:

Election law scholar and community organizer Jocelyn Benson is running for an open seat to replace republican Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land who is term-limited out of office. In 2004, she ran a voter protection campaign in 21 states, deploying 17,000 trained election law lawyers. In Michigan in 2008, Benson helped lead the fight to stop republican Secretary of State Land from disenfranchising voters who were victims of home foreclosures.

Benson has been endorsed by Michigan Teamsters, Democracy for America, AFT-Michigan, the Building and Construction Trades Council, the 8th and 11th Congressional District Democratic Parties, Bangladeshi American Democratic Caucus, Michigan State University College Dems, Congressman John Conyers, Lake Superior State University (LSSU) College Democrats, American Federation of Government Employees, Justice Caucus, and MANY others.

Here is one of Jocelyn Benson's campaign videos to give you an idea of what she is like:

And here is an excellent opinion piece written by Jocelyn Benson that gives an idea of where she is coming from:

Time for Transparency: Michigan Must Quickly Implement Better Reporting and Disclosure Requirements Following Recent Supreme Court Campaign Finance Decision

If you live anywhere in Michigan, PLEASE volunteer for Jocelyn Benson's campaign to help bring honesty and integrity to Michigan's election system.

And please donate to the Secretary of State Project and their endorsed candidates.
