Bill Halter (Ark-Sen) Endorsed by League of Conservation Voters

The League of Conservation Voters has joined the AFL-CIO in endorsing Arkansas Lt. Governor Bill Halter for the US Senate. While Halter's primary opponent, Blanche Lincoln, enjoys solid support for the likes of Goldman Sachs, Bill Halter gets the support of labor and environmentalists.

From the League of Conservation Voters's Give Green site:

Bill Halter, Arkansas Lieutenant Governor and candidate for U.S. Senate, quickly garnered the support of numerous progressive groups in his bid to unseat Sen. Blanche Lincoln in the Democratic primary. Whereas Lincoln has been named to the LCV “Dirty Dozen” list and recently co-sponsored legislation that threatens to undermine the Clean Air Act, Halter has committed himself to being a strong advocate in the Senate for clean energy jobs. From national security to jump-starting a new energy economy, he understands that environmental issues are at the heart of American policy.

    From the AFL-CIO:

After a lengthy discussion about Senator Lincoln’s position on Healthcare, the appointment of Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board, the Employee Free Choice Act, and trade issues, the Arkansas AFL-CIO Executive Board voted to support Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter for his candidacy in the Democratic Primary for the United States Senate. We believe that Bill Halter will listen to Arkansas’ working families and support their issues in Washington as he has done as Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas.

In addition, Halter has been endorsed by the Alliance for Retired Americans:

Your positions have consistently demonstrated a strong determination to improve the quality of life for older Americans. During your tenure as a senior official at the Social Security Administration, you worked to ensure and enhance the financial stability of the Social Security Trust Fund and provide better service to America’s seniors. In addition, you have been a steadfast opponent of privatizing Social Security and actively worked against President Bush’s privatization schemes.

The Alliance for Retired Americans believes that your election as a United States Senator from Arkansas will enhance the quality of life for older Americans

With the support of labor, environmentalists, progressives and retired Americans, Halter has raised nearly $5 million for his campaign. A big chunk of this came from labor. Another big chunk (over $2 million) from small donations from the progressive grassroots. And the polls have been tightening to an almost dead heat.
