Progressive Wins in Pennsylvania's Primary Election

Repeated from last week...after all, it's great news!

Last week there was a primary election in Pennsylvania, and as usual I highlighted Progressive Majority candidates running. Seems Progressive Majority followed up their earlier wins in Wisconsin with some great wins in Pennsylvania. Here is their report:

It was another great night for Progressive Majority candidates in Pennsylvania’s primary election, where we went 5-0.

We targeted several tough, down-ballot races in swing suburban Bucks and Chester counties so we can continue building the farm team there for years to come. Yesterday, our candidates wore their progressive values proudly, fought hard and won their primaries, and they look forward to even tougher contests in November.

Since 2004, Progressive Majority has been working in these types of difficult swing areas to identify, recruit and train progressive champions to run for local offices.

Some of our key wins last night included:

    West Chester Mayor
Carolyn Comitta edged her opponent in the Democratic primary by just 23 votes! Comitta, a current member of the West Chester Borough Council, will face a tough election this fall as well because this seat has been held by conservatives since 1992 and has never been held by a woman. Fortunately, due to the strength of the Obama field operation last year, there are now more registered Democrats than Republicans and Independents combined in the borough.

    Bensalem School Board
Progressive Majority has been supporting candidates in Bensalem for several years now, and we need to continue supporting candidates in the region. Even though Obama won the township with 58 percent of the vote, it is represented by a conservative mayor, state representative, city council and school board. All four of our candidates - Carol Jones, Rose Jacobs, Richard Salzman and Carol McGuire - cruised to victory in the Democratic primary, where they were the top vote-getters out of eight candidates. They now advance to the general election.

Yesterday's results show once again that progressive values are American values and that Progressive Majority's program works. But, we can only do this when strong leaders stand up to run for office and you join us in providing the resources necessary to make their victories possible.
