Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

    M Powering Madison

    Continued from last week:

I want to introduce you to M Powering Madison:

A community pledging to reduce CO2 emissions by 100,000 tons

When you take the Mpower pledge, you join a community commitment to reduce 100,000 tons in citywide emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) by 2011.

You’re Mpowered to buy more renewable wind and solar power and help eliminate 40,000 tons of CO2; together, we can increase the efficiency of our current energy use in simple ways that can save enough energy to power more than 20,000 homes; we can install solar systems – a system in your home or business can eliminate 7,000 tons of CO2; we can reduce car emissions and plant trees – 1 tree absorbs 1 ton of CO2 over its lifetime. You can begin to conserve and protect our most precious resource: water.

You’re Mpowered at home, at work, at school and on the go to make our community a remarkably healthy place to live, work and play today, and for generations to come. You can. You count.

For more information, please contact: info(at)mpoweringmadison.com.

You can get Mpowered now with these 6 Can-do’s:

Take these six simple action steps toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Whether you choose to do all six steps or take on just one or two, the key is that you are making the move necessary to make the Madison community a healthier place for all:

    1. Buy renewable energy

    2. Improve energy efficiency

    3. Install solar

    4. Reduce car emissions

    5. Plant trees

    6. Conserve water

    Do your part!

Let me just say that I already do 5 out of these 6 here in NYC. And I am working on the 6th (install solar) though I have to convince my co-op board this is worth the initial outlay of money (it takes 3-5 years to break even).
