VIRGINIA ACTION ALERT: End Workplace Discrimination

With Iowa leading the way for Equality, I think it is time for other states to start catching up. In Virginia workplace discrimination against gays and lesbians continues. This action alert comes from Equality Virginia. They are urging you to write your state Senators and Representatives to urge them to pass HB 2385. Here is their suggested wording:

As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to support HB 2385, legislation that will help stop workplace discrimination against state and local employees.

On his first day in office, Governor Tim Kaine signed Executive Order #1 prohibiting discrimination against state employees on the basis of race, sex, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, age, political affiliation, veteran status or disability.

Unfortunately, the Virginia General Assembly has never passed legislation protecting the state or local workforce from discrimination. It is now time to codify the Governor's Executive Order and extend its reach to local employees, helping to ensure that future generations of employees are protected from workplace discrimination.
