Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

    Progressive Democrat Issue 176

Even Bush is sick of the Iraq fiasco...he has been mumbling about pulling out troops and about a "time horizon"...yes, "HORIZON," not a timeline, for the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq. Don't know about you, but I have never heard anyone talk about "time horizons" before. Makes me think of an event horizon around a black hole...which is an ominous comparison.

Remember, though, Bush's shifting to withdrawal is not by any choice of his. The Iraq government has told him in no uncertain terms that we have outlived our welcome and they do not want us there permanently.

But wait...McCain seems behind here. He isn't talking horizons. His campaign is declaring war on Muslims. That's right...one of his swiftboat wing nuts, in an official campaign conference call, claimed that "the Muslims" have declared that Americans must kneel or be killed and John McCain refuses to kneel. I'd like to hear where he gets the ideas that "the Muslims" have declared this. As far as I know, no one alive today can speak for all Muslims. McCain clearly wants to carry on Bush's Crusade another 50, 100 years. He has said so several times.

Meanwhile, in San Francisco there is a ballot initiative to create a lasting memorial to the George W. Bush presidency: they want to rename the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant the George W Bush Sewage Plant.
