Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

NORTH CAROLINA FOCUS: Blogs, Obama, Kay Hagan, Larry Kissell, Veterans for Peace, Peace Vigils, Groups and Events

NORTH CAROLINA BLOGGING: BlueNC is a community-driven website that promotes progressive values and policies in North Carolina.

North Carolina is a Senate battleground this year. We have a pretty good shot at winning. Let me introduce you to Kay Hagan, the Democratic candidate for Senate in North Carolina:

I notice Hagan's campaign seems extremely well organized, which will really increase her chances of winning. You can help in many ways by signing up here. Even if you aren't in North Carolina you can help by phone banking from home (a strategy that worked extremely well in a NY State Congressional race in 2006!)

Next let me highlight Larry Kissell, running for Congress. Larry almost certainly won in 2006, but voter fraud that lost thousands of votes, probably stealing the election. Kissell is runnig again and is very likely to win. He was a Textile Worker for 27 years and is now a teacher at East Montgomery High School. Here is a video from his campaign:

You can find out more about Larry Kissell and help out here.

    4th of July Kirkwood Parade

The 4th of July Kirkwood Parade is nationally famous neighborhood parade with several thousand people gathering in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Greensboro (Corner of Lafayette and Princess Ann - 2 blocks east of the Target S/C on Lawndale Dr.) The event is open to anyone who shows up. Kids decorate their bikes and ride them. Adults decorate their cars and drive them. Local politicians ride in convertibles (Republican 6th District Congressman Howard Coble has never missed one and our strong Democratic challenger for his seat, Teresa Sue Bratton, will also be there this year) We need to create a strong Obama presence at this event. If necessary I will decorate and drive my Pacifica in the parade by myself. If anyone has a large open pickup and especially an open trailer that we could decorate and fill with Obama supporters that would obviously be a lot better. I have plenty of Obama gear and patriotic bunting to decorate with. The parade steps off at 5:00 PM sharp and only lasts about 20 minutes so plan to be there by 3:30 to help decorate the vehicle(s) and work the crowd for Obama. Come with your kids. Wear your shirts and buttons. Bring your rally signs and bumper stickers. It is a great time. Laurie and I have never missed the parade in 30 years. We will meet in the parking lot near the Panara Bread in the Target Center on Lawndale at 3:30, July 4th to decorate and get “Fired Up.” If you can help with a better vehicle than mine, call me at (336) 681-5918. Plan to have fun and show up for Barack Obama!
