Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

Progressive Democrat Issue 74: NYC FOCUS

Petitioning season is coming up. THIS is the critical time when aspiring politicians either make it to the ballot or lose momentum and slip into obscurity. In fact, next to money raised, a good measure of who is the likely winner of any local election is the number of signatures gathered on their qualifying petitions. Those who scrape by for qualification are still likely losers. Those who have the resources and popularity to gather excess signatures are the likely winners.

Petitioning can be done through individual candidates or through local clubs. I do not endorse candidates in this newsletter, so I can only urge you to either contact your local favorite candidates, or contact me personally for information on your local races and how to contact local candidates, or get involved with your local clubs and organizations.

For those who prefer a more progressive slant on your candidates, I recommend getting involved with your local Democracy for NYC or New Democratic Majority group and ask how you can help petition.

You can also look into your local clubs and see who they are supporting.

The petitioning season is starting in a few weeks. This really will be a defining moment for many politicians. PLEASE spend some hours petitioning for the good candidates!
