Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

    Progressive Democrat Issue 73: THOUGHTS

This week’s newsletter will again be short and next week there will be no newsletter. This week I have been overwhelmed with a major scandal in one of the local Democratic clubs I am a member of and have been working on that. It is a shame when Democrats act in corrupt and undemocratic ways, but that is what a local club is doing and I am fighting it. That is not something I will here because this newsletter is meant to focus activism on fighting the right wing, not to air battles between Democrats. But the embarrassment of a previously good club taken over by people who are willing to do anything to protect their power has left me a bit tired and uninspired this week. So all I will say about it is this. If people like you and me aren’t active in our local clubs, then those clubs will be controlled by people whose main interests are power and that can lead to corruption within our own party. Our participation in our local clubs is so important if we want our Party to reflect our values.

Next week’s newsletter will be cancelled because of the April 29th DNC Neighbor-to-Neighbor canvassing effort. I am proud that Joy and I were the first in all of NYC to set up an event and, as of last time I looked, ours is the biggest in the city. I also know that at least two readers of this newsletter are holding their own events.

Hopefully April 29th will re-inspire me and my local club’s recent fiasco will seem more of a challenge than an embarrassment to me.
