    Iowa Focus: Sustainable Agriculture Events

    Sept. 18 PFI Field Day: Mechanics of a Diversified Farm, 3-6 p.m., Van Horne. Eric and Ann Franzenburg manage a diversified farm, creating a resilient farm business with greater profits per acre. They employ mechanization—which they define as using the right tool in the right place at the right time. Eric and Ann will demonstrate their equipment in action.     Oct. 6-8 Amaranth Institute 2011 Meeting: Innovation and Development, Ames.     Oct. 21 PFI Field Day: From Commercial to Organic/Energy Efficient Farm, Phase 2, 2-4 p.m., Emmetsburg. In fall 2010, Soper Farms began the process of adding an organic enterprise, called New Shoots, to their farm. Check out 160-acres used for grass-fed beef and pastured checks, visit the new facilities for cattle maintenance and poultry processing, and explore the New Shoots organic vegetable operation under construction.
