Eyes on the Prize film for black history month

The African Descendant Support Network (ADSN) will present episode 5 from the critically acclaimed documentary on civil rights, "Eyes on the Prize", in recognition of Black History Month 2011.
Mississippi: Is This America? (1963-1964), will take us through the vil rights era as northerners band together to help southern African Americans vote. As the grass-roots civil rights movement becomes an American concern the Freedom
Democratic Party challenges the Mississippi delegation at the Democratic Convention in Atlantic City.
During this program we will revisit history in as we remember our past and will engage in stimulating conversation regarding issues of race and civil rights. After the film, our community panel will lead the group in a 45-60 minute
discussion. Panelists include the following community leaders: Fred Douglas, Andre Crockett, Donovan Bailey, and Susan Ziebert. The discussion will be facilitated by Jessica Stewart, Mayo Administrative Fellow.
The panalists and facilitator will involve the community in discussions about what civil rights means today and what actions can be taken to ensure everyone’s rights are protected despite race, religion, sexual orientation, ethnic
background etc.

Black History Month Event: "Traces of the Trade"

Rochester Public Library Auditorium
First-time filmmaker Katrina Browne makes a troubling discovery - her New England ancestors were the largest slave-trading family in U.S. history. She and nine fellow descendants set off on a journey to retrace their slaving history,
from Rhode Island to Ghana to Cuba. Step by step, they uncover the vast extent of Northern complicity in slavery while also stumbling through a minefield of contemporary race relations. Film followed by discussion. Sponsored by Rochester
Public Library and the Diversity Council.
Immunizations and Vaccines 101

Speaker: Dan Hudson, RN Family Medicine, OMC.Without current vaccines we could expect Polio to paralyze 15,000 children, Pertussis ("whooping cough") to kill 8,000, Rubella to cause 20,000 cases of birth defects and mental retardation and Diphtheria would be one of the most common causes of death in school-aged children. Thanks to vaccines there are about 2 cases of diphtheria, 5 cases of birth defects from rubella and no cases of polio occurring annually. This
presentation will aim inform and answer some of the controversy surrounding them. We will also discuss current immunization recommendations for seniors. Free for members, $2 for non-members, all ages welcome. Please RSVP by 4pm on

Biodiesel Stations in Olmstead County area:
Biodiesel is less polluting and has a smaller carbon footprint than regular diesel, and is produced right here in the USA. Places like Minnesota with strong agriculture are particularly suited for biodiesel...and sure enough Olmsted county has quite a few biodiesel stations. Biodiesel can be used in almost any diesel engine. Up to B20 (a 20 percent blend) any diesel engine, whether car or 18 wheeler or whatever, can use it. Above B20 some older engines may have problems, but newer engines should be ok. Here are some local biodiesel stations:
