Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. From a recent meeting of the Hanover County Democrats:

Don’t Cut Education & Police, Armstrong Warns

Hanover Democrats met at the Ashcreek Recreation center on February 5 for our annual pancake breakfast.

Amidst an often humorous speech and good natured jabs, Del. Ward Armstrong, minority leader of the House of Delegates in the Virginia General Assembly, struck a somber note at the Hanover Democrats' annual pancake breakfast on February 5.

"Fixing transportation is an important objective, but we shouldn't take money away from our schools and police officers to pay for pavement. To continue to create jobs, remain competitive in the global economy and invest our Commonwealth's future, we must provide the funding necessary to keep our public education system among the best in the nation," Armstrong told those attending the Pancake Breakfast and silent auction sponsored by the Hanover Democratic Committee.

Del. Armstrong warned that House Republicans are taking funds from education and public safety to fund transportation. "House Republicans want to cut $65 million from public education, taking away even more money from schools already struggling with massive budget cuts from previous years." He cautioned that the proposed House budget also takes $150 million from the general fund which pays for schools and police...all to support transportation.
