Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

    Native Vote 2010 Nevada

    From Native Vote 2010:

The American Indian and Alaska Native population account for 2.11% of the state’s overall population, and 1.93% of eligible Nevadan voters. This state is particularly controversial because Senator Harry Reid (D) is considered to be one of the most vulnerable incumbents in the congressional elections. He will be challenged by assemblywoman Sharron Angle (R). As of today, both candidates have enjoyed a lead in the polls. Reid is currently ahead with 47.8% of the vote, which leaves Angle with 45.3%. Although Reid is currently ahead in the polls, the lead is continuously changing. Due to the uncertainty of voters, Indian Country has an opportunity to turn out 28,000 tribal members to help decide this election.

The 3rd congressional district was not established when the 2000 census was conducted. As such, there is no specific data for the three American Indian tribes that reside within its boundaries. And since the district boundaries were drawn to balance both political parties, the race against Congressman Dina Titus (D) will be close.

    Primary Election – June 8, 2010
    General Election – November 2, 2010

Voter Registration closes October 12, 2010
