    May 8-15 Santiago Creek Watershed: Creek Week While the urban environment in Orange County continues to change, hidden in its maze of neighborhoods, businesses, and roads are cascading waterfalls, ancient canyons of weathered sandstone, hillsides covered with wildflowers, shady oak woodlands, and the constant circulation of our drinking water. This fascinating urban oasis is known as the Santiago Creek Watershed. santiagocreek.org
    Sat., May 8 4pm Creek Clean-up Help clean up Santiago Creek. Meet at the Santiago Park Wildlife Center in Santa Ana.
    Sat., May 8 6pm Potluck/Campfire/Acoustic performances Come share food, music and poetry around a camp fire at the Santiago Park Wildlife Center in Santa Ana.
    Sat., May 15 9am Trout Run Come run the historic route of the Steelhead Trout! Meet at the Santiago Park Wildlife Center. (Trout costume optional)

    The Santiago Creek watershed begins in the Santa Ana Mountains, runs through Santa Ana, connects with the Santa Ana River, and connects to the Pacific Ocean. Steelhead Trout used to trek from the ocean to the mountains, providing food for Grizzly Bears up until recent times. Participate in these free community events in order to learn more about our local ecology.

    New May 11 Tuesday 7:30pm, Irvine. Orange County Sierra Club monthly meeting. ALL Welcome - FREE. Marcella Gilchrist, site manager for the Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary in Modjeska Canyon will tell us about this gem of a preserve. 'Tucker', through its research projects, helps preserve wildlife and natural habitats in the canyons of Orange County. We meet at 7:30pm at the Irvine Ranch Water District at 15600 Sand Canyon in Irvine between the 5 and 405 fwys. Refreshments served.     May 13 Thursday 6:30pm, Costa Mesa: Americans United for Separation of Church and State: Sean Faircloth, Executive Director of the Secular Coalition for America. Sean will discuss "One Nation Under the Constitution: The Future of Secularism in America". Sean Faircloth served five terms in the Maine Legislature where he served on the Judiciary and Appropriations Committees. In his last term Faircloth was elected Majority Whip. In 2009 he became executive director of the Secular Coalition for America, advocating for separation of church and state, and for greater acceptance of nontheistic viewpoints in American life. Meeting will be held at Orange County Department of Education, 200 Kalmus Drive, Costa Mesa. $5 donation to cover expenses is requested; no one will be turned away for lack of funds.     May 15 Saturday 2pm, Irvine: Americans United for Separation of Church and State: Dr. James Corbett will discuss "Religion, Political Conservatism and the Public Schools". Jim will be discussing what is going on with the history curriculum by the Texas School Board, the science curriculum in Dover, Pennsylvania and the New Jersey case of book censorship.

    Orange County Biodiesel Cooperative: Working together to increase availability of biodiesel in the Orange County region. Biodiesel is better for the environment because it is made from renewable resources and has lower emissions compared to petroleum diesel. It is less toxic than table salt and biodegrades as fast as sugar. Since it is made in the USA from renewable resources such as soybeans, its use decreases our dependence on foreign oil and contributes to our own economy.
