Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

    Progressive Majority Texas

Progressive Majority is coming to Texas and you can help. From the Progressive majority website:

Texas may not often come to mind as the home of a growing progressive movement, but it is. Emerging out of urban areas like Austin, Houston and Dallas, as well as more rural areas such as the Rio Grande Valley, progressives have been gaining ground in Texas. Of course, Texas is still considered a "safe" Republican state, as the GOP controls all state wide offices, both houses of the legislature, and a majority of Members in the US Congress. Yet Republicans hold only a 77-73 advantage in the Texas State House of Representatives and Bill White is a strong candidate in 2010 to defeat GOP incumbent Governor Rick Perry.

Years of extreme conservative politics have not served Texans well. As the second largest state, Texas is home to massive immigration -over 15% of the population was not born in the United States. Yet the GOP continues to ignore - and even worse, to exploit - the needs of immigrants in the state. Moreover, strong progressive groups like Annie's List - a group dedicated to electing women to public office in Texas -have begun to turn the tide. With Texas expected to gain 4 seats in the U.S. Congress as a result of redistricting, Texas is becoming a central focus for national politics. Progressive Majority is excited to help swing the Lone Star State in the coming years.

Soon Progressive Majority will be up and running in Texas. Fill out THIS FORM to join the Progressive Majority email list and stay informed. We'll send out an email as soon as we launch in Texas.
