Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

    Groundhog Day?

So I'm not the only one who sees just how close the parallels between 1994 and now are. This comes from Progressive Majority, one of the most successful organizations around in terms of actually getting good, solid progressives elected to office:

Do you ever feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day?

That's how I feel these days. Sometimes I feel like I'm living in 1994 all over again.

Just look at 1994 and you'll see my point:

    * Health care reform failed to pass despite a Democratic president and majorities in both chambers of Congress
    * Crazy conspiracy theories were spun about our president
    * Democrats and progressives across the country suffered tremendous losses in the mid-term election
o Democrats lost 54 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives
o Republicans went from controlling 8 state legislatures to controlling 19 state legislatures in a single day

At Progressive Majority, we are working to make sure this year isn't a repeat of 1994. We are supporting more candidates than ever before. But we can't do it alone. We need your help to give progressive candidates the tools they need to win this fall. Click here to support our progressive candidates by giving to Progressive Majority.

Unfortunately, we do have one disadvantage. Republicans are planning to spend $40 million - mostly from corporations like Wal-Mart and Exxon Mobil - on state races this year. Their goal? To flip 35 to 40 state legislatives seats this fall, so they can control enough of the redistricting process to flip as many as 32 U.S. House seats back to Republican control.

Please support progressive candidates by making a contribution of $35, $50, $100 or more to Progressive Majority today by making a secure online donation here.

    Don't let 2010 be another 1994.

I give a monthly donation to Progressive majority. If you are one of those people who have stopped giving to the DNC, DSCC or DCCC theses days, I recommend giving to Progressive Majority instead. They have been electing some fantastic people and training the next generation of progressive politicians.

As a side note, Progressive Majority once used one of my articles from this newsletter for their recruitment. I happened to be one of the people they invited to talk to and was happy to see my article in their information packet.
