The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national.     Mofford Merit Awards

    The West Valley Democrats will honor the Boehlke Family: Robert, Debra and Bree at the third annual Mofford Merit Award event on March 21, 2009. Previous awardees were Judy Kennedy and Lois Pfau. Others who have contributed to the growth of the Democratic Party in the West Valley will also be recognized.

    Saguaro Eastside Democrats, Tucson, Monthly Meeting
    The next SED meeting will be held on Monday, March 23 and will feature a panel of experts who'll offer overviews on the education crisis from the federal, state and local level.

    Robin Hiller from Voices For Education will talk about the effect of the federal stimulus bill, a representative from the Arizona Education Association will take a look at the effects of state budget cuts, and TUSD Board member Mark Stegeman will talk about how all of the above is affecting Arizona's largest school district.

    The March 23rd meeting will be held at New Spirit Lutheran Church, 8701 E. Old Spanish Trail (northeast corner at Camino Seco). The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with time for socializing and light refreshments. The panel will begin at 7:00 p.m. Please try to attend this meeting. There'll be lots of information about how you can help resolve this challenge to our collective future.

    Grand Dems Meeting
    News from the State Capitol

    Two Democratic leaders of the AZ House of Representatives, Chad Campbell and Kyrsten Sinema, will discuss current issues at the State Capitol. We will hear about the budget concerns for the fiscal year beginning in July. This promises to be an interesting discussion.

    Roosevelt / Kennedy Dinner

    You are invited to Flagstaff for the 9th Annual Roosevelt / Kennedy dinner. It will be held Saturday, April 18th, 2009 at the Radisson Woodlands Hotel. It will begin at 5:30 with a cash bar. Dinner is at 7:00 pm. There will be a live and silent auction. Our speaker is Andrei Cherny, former Arizona Assistant Attorney General and advisor to Bill Clinton, Al Gore and Barack Obama. His topic will be “Obama’s First 100 Days and Arizona’s Economic Crisis: What it Means for 2010.” Tickets are $75 per person. Tables can be purchased with one check of $750 (10) or $600 (8).
