Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

    Follow the Coal Money

Found this site through the Black Mesa Indigenous Support website.

Follow the Coal Money is an interactive tool that tracks the flow and influence of coal money in US politics, throughout all political parties. Click on one of the search tools on the right to find out which companies are heaping their dirty coal money into politics, and which lawmakers are receiving it. As Congress debates how to address two of coal's biggest problems -- mountaintop removal and global warming -- you can find out how polluters are influencing lawmakers with their dirty coal money.

After you have explored our tool, be sure to Take Action! We will add new features and data regularly, so check back soon and often.

Research the influence coal has on your representatives here. I discovered that my Congresswoman, Yvette Clarke, has received ZERO dollars from the coal industry. Senator Chuck Schumer DID received considerable money from coal until 2005. Since then zero. Guess the coal industry didn't get what they paid for, which is good.

You can tell your Congressional Reps what you think here.

Learn more about coal from the Union of Concerned Scientists.
