Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

    Progressive Democrat Issue 168

Somewhat shorter newsletter this week. Been busy with work and family. But it has been a big week. The primary continues...and it is probably a good thing. Let's face it. The fierce primary between two such excellent candidates has raised Democratic voter registration to record highs and has brought out many new voters who, if we can maintain the momentum, will blow the Republicans away. This week's newsletter includes some statements from one of my Senators predicting such a rout of the Republicans in November.

In Arizona some of the Progressive Majority candidates I have been highlighting have won historic victories...yet again Progressive Majority comes through. Check out the Arizona Focus section for more info.

This week Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with a brain tumor. This is of course bad news, but Elizabeth Edwards wisely warns us not to be writing his obituary yet. Cancer is a disease that is more treatable now than ever, though our tools for doing so remain relatively crude. Surgery is really an ancient technique though always improving. Radiation therapy and chemotherapy both kill all rapidly dividing cells in the body. But the percentage of cancer patients who become "cancer survivors" (a term not everyone likes) increases year by year. Best of luck to Ted and the whole Kennedy family.

    Here is this week's newsletter:
