Progressive Democrat Issue 119: THOUGHTS
This last week I attended a dinner of one of the local Democratic clubs. Three Congressional reps were there and several local politicians. I can say that the enthusiasm that we saw after the November 2006 win continues, particularly among our Reps.
Rep. Anthony Weiner said the best way we can support our troops is to get them out of the Iraq mess as soon as possible.
Rep. Yvette Clarke said in November the American public spoke, demanding a new direction on Iraq...but Bush won't listen. Bush is, she says, "stuck on stupid."
Rep. Nydia Velazquez maintains an almost giddy enthusiasm, though admits that Democrats have to continue to follow up on getting things done and not just rely on the first 100 hours. She admits that in some ways it was easier being in the minority and standing on the outside casting stones. But even if it is harder, she is determined to make the most of the Dems being in charge.
What a difference! We went from fear, corruption and paralysis in Congress when the Republicans were in charge, to an enthusiastic determination to LISTEN to the American public and DELIVER on promises. THIS is why I am proud to be a Democrat.
Here is this week's newsletter:
