Progressive Democrat Issue 90: REPUBLICANS TERRIFIED OF MOVEON.org

The Right Wing is scared. I mean they are starting to sound absolutely hysterical.

And what is the main target of their fear these days? It seems to be MoveOn.org, the organization founded in 1998 to call for censure, not impeachment, of Bill Clinton so the nation could "Move On" and get back to business. Now MoveOn.org has more than 3 million members, raised over $9 million from 125,000 donors in 2005 and expects to spend $25 million on candidates and independent ads this year. Already MoveOn.org claims credit for five House races changing from "lean Republican" to "lean Democrat" after they aired targeted ads in those districts. MoveOn sent out an email urging its members to support Pennsylvania Senate candidate Bob Casey in his race against Rick Santorum. Casey raised $150,000 in just 24 hours. And now MoveOn has set up a massive phone banking effort that aims to call 5 million voters before November 7th.

So what is the reaction of the now hysterical Republicans? According to AlterNet the Republicans are resorting to their usual swiftboating lies and smears.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee responded to MoveOn's excellent fundraising efforts for Casey by issuing a "press release" calling Casey (an abortion opponent and moderate Dem) a member of the "ultra-liberal left." John Brabender, Santorum's media consultant, said that if Casey accepts MoveOn money, he "will have a lot of trouble in Pennsylvania, particularly in the middle part of the state." One look at the polls consistently showing Casey ahead of terrified Santorum show that Brabender is full of it.

And, of course, Bill O'Reilly had to get in on it by saying that people giving money to MoveOn's PAC might as well "give to the Nazi party."

Excuse me? Nazi party? I actually have a MoveOn organizer staying at my apartment while she helps set up the phone banks. She is a young, perky black woman who is putting more than 12 hours a day into the phone bank and still manages a smile. THIS is what Republicans are terrified of and Bill O'Reilly compares with Nazism: hardworking, enthusiastic, young, perky grassroots activists.

I must admit I am laughing my ass off watching people like this young black women make Santorum pale with fear and Bill O'Reilly splotchy with impotent rage.

So come on, folks. Get involved with MoveOn.org and do your part to making the Republican party shit their pants. Donate or volunteer because THIS is how we will drive back the un-American Republicans and retake America.
