Progressive Democrat Issue 92: BROOKLYN FOCUS

LAST MINUTE REMINDER: Develop Don’t Destroy Brooklyn's "Walk Don't Destroy" Walkathon Fundraiser is tomorrow, Saturday Oct. 21

Last night was their Restaurant Night, where local restaurants contribute some of their profits to DDDB's legal fund. I used this as an opportunity to try one of the participating restaurants that I had been eyeing for months: Bogota on 5th Ave in Park Slope. Great Columbian food and great service. I particularly recommend the plantain encrusted chicken and the cilantro mashed potatoes. But that was last night. Tomorrow is the big event. Joy and I will be there!

    DDDB's Press Release:

Walk in Prospect Park to Raise Funds for Looming Legal Battles Against Ratner’s Atlantic Yards Proposal

BROOKLYN, NY— As the legal battles against Forest City Ratner’s proposed “Atlantic Yards” mega-project loom, Develop Don’t Destroy Brooklyn (DDDB) will hold a major fundraising event followed by a free concert.

On Saturday, October 21st, DDDB’s Second Annual Walk Don’t Destroy Walkathon Fundraiser kicks off at 1pm from the Prospect Park Bandshell in Brooklyn. Funds raised by walkers from their sponsors will go towards the legal fight against eminent domain abuse, environmental degradation, and a deeply flawed development process.

“The Walkathon is going to be a wonderful, Brooklyn community fundraising event, as we continue to build our war chest in preparation for our vigorous legal challenges to Ratner’s eminent domain-abusing, boondoggle mega-project,” said DDDB spokesman Daniel Goldstein

The walk, a little less than two miles, will start from the Prospect Park Bandshell, go to Grand Army Plaza and back to the Bandshell. The Rude Mechanical Orchestra marching band will accompany the walkers along the route. At the end of the walk, at 2:30, there will be a free concert at the Bandshell featuring musician/author John Wesley Harding, and three bands: The States, Sixth Sense, and NuComme.

There will be numerous children’s activities at the Walkathon including face-painting and large murals for children to hand color.
