Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

Saturday, February 18th, 8:30am – 11:00am. A Workshop on Immigration Legislation. Virginia Grassroots Coalition and VACOLAO (Virginia Coalition of Latino Organizations) are proud to co-host a workshop on February 18th to discuss the impact that the numerous anti-immigrant legislative bills will have on Latino immigrants if passed. We will discuss what can be done to stop this legislation and how to do it. This should be of special interest to progressives who share this concern. The bills include legislation that would deny immigrant access to higher education, requires fluency in English to get a driver's license, and would deny the use of public funds to pay for day labor sites. The workshop will take place on Saturday, February 18 from 8:30am-11:00am at the Arlington Mill Community Center, 4975 Columbia Pile, Arlington, VA. Speakers will include VACOLAO leaders who went to Richmond to lobby against this legislation, as well as elected state officials, and other community leaders who will be addressing this issue. Drinking Liberally: An informal, inclusive weekly Democratic drinking club. Raise your spirits while you raise your glass, and share ideas while you share a pitcher. Drinking Liberally gives like-minded, left-leaning individuals a place to talk politics. You don't need to be a policy expert and this isn't a book club - just come and learn from peers, trade jokes, vent frustration and hang out in an environment where it's not taboo to talk politics. Find your local drinking liberally group or start your own with a few buddies. Currently there are only two Drinking Liberally groups in all of VA (see below). But it is easy to start your own!
