Mole's Progressive Democrat

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. Originally intended for New York City progressives, its readership is now national. For anyone who wants to be alerted by email whenever this newsletter is updated (usually weekly), please send your email address and let me know what state you live in (so I can keep track of my readership).

Progressive Democrat Issue 39: NYC FOCUS

The primaries are coming up. Again, I want to emphasize that it is very important for us all to be part of the process because if we aren’t out there backing candidates, only those candidates who are backed by big money get anywhere. You can find candidate websites on the left hand side of the Democracy for NYC website.

But there is something else we need to do: be ready to vote. The same link above can give you information on candidates. Don’t just pay attention to the mayor’s race. There are several other races of considerable importance—Public Advocate, Brooklyn Surrogate judge, the DA races, etc. Find out about these candidates and vote intelligently. It is on the local level like surrogate judge and DA where corruption can be rampant or can be fought. The choice is ours, but we need to read up on the races to know. DFNYC can be a good resource for information.

Debates are another way to find out about candidates. Here are some upcoming debates that you can catch on TV:
